OK phew we made it, if only barely! Here’s our Winter 2012 App Update, delivered on the first day of winter! Still plenty of time to get these BabyCakes NYC Gingerbread Folks, Thumbprint Cookies, or Chocolate Cake Balls—or even all three—onto your Overachiever Holiday Party Table. Get the app for your iPhone and iPad today, or else get it for someone else’s iPhone and iPad and call it a gift! https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/babycakes-vegan-gluten-free/id522075873?mt=8
Are we jumping the gun on the holiday with these Santa Frosting Shots?
Despite the wrath of Hurricane Sandy, no nite light, no warm bath, no hot bottles, and no Halloween candy, my baby girl Halsey Valentine makes the most of Halloween as a gluten free, Vegan Chicken in NYC.
THE BABYCAKES APP IS HERE! Yes, you can now get it for yourself and maybe even some loved ones RIGHT HERE! It costs $3.99, has more than 30 videos, oodles of recipes, and a bunch of fun and pretty stuff you’ll love.
I’ll do this quick, because it’s all in the video above: Kiernan Shipka helps me make waffles; Mark Bittman on the New York Times yaps vegetarianism; J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr wrote us a theme song!; James Beard Award winner Christina Tosi of Momofuku/Milk Bar shares a pie recipe and Brooks Headley of 4-star-earner Del Posto offers a crostata recipe; There’s a remix of the David Lebovitz donuts vid that is excellent!; there are babies baking; the premiere of BabyCakes Pretzels and Sandwich Bread! There’s just so much… most everything on video! (About this last point: please be patient… it’s a long download because there is so much video. It takes a while but then afterward you won’t need an internet connection for your videos to play!)
OK this is way too long, but this is a huge day for us! We really hope you like it.
Love, Erin and Everyone at BabyCakes NYC
Each time I visit LA I make a point to visit my favorite health food stores to see if there are any new weirdo health-based ingredients or sweets that are innovative and taste good. I waste a lot of money this way because I am usually disappointed but I never give up!
Saturday evening I visited what was the old Nature Mart on Hillhurst (sorry, don’t remember the new name)in a panic to find a good gluten-free,dairy-free ice cream because that’s my new habit and I don’t make ice cream (yet). I darted through the usual aisles and aisles of packages of what seems like the same raw, vegan macaroons and endless kale chip selection (sorry, but it’s time to start getting creative, people!) when I finally reached the freezer and found the most LA-centric ice cream I have ever seen. The packaging was marked with spiritual affirmations and boasted that it was loaded with probiotics, rain forest superfood, low glycemic, and made from flaxmilk and lots of other healthy things. It was called OmegaCream. This was it. I knew I had to try it.
Back at home after baby H.Valentine was asleep in her crib I skeptically peeled open the ice cream and took my first bite. I was very impressed by how interesting and rich each bite was. The flavor was kind of pecan-y, vanilla-y sweet and salty (Himalayan pink salt OF COURSE!) I ate the whole thing in the dark next to snoozing baby and I swear I started hallucinating some really deep stuff (not really, but sure). It was so good I wanted to write a love letter to it, but that would be kind of depressing thing to do so here I am on Tumblr—the next best thing.
I’m not sure what else OmegaCream is up to but I know I will excitedly buy a few tubs to eat in the dark next to snoozing baby the next time I see it in a store.
This. Is. Just. Bananas. This weekend’s special is this slightly-crunchy, totally-amazing, gluten-free, vegan Monkey Bread. We’ll have this item at our NYC and LA bakeries from Friday (today) until Sunday. Mention this post and get 20% off the Monkey Bread
We’ve been nominated for Best Vegan Bakery by Veg News again! Take a sec and vote here if you can! We voted for Vegenaise for favorite condiment, Enjoy Life for best chocolate, and NadaMoo (omg it’s amazing) for top ice cream. What about you?
Look! I’m barefoot (yet no longer pregnant) in my home kitchen. Thank you Sous Style for this lovely interview!
I just passed out looking at some footage from the BabyCakes App! Have a look….
Mark Bittman stopped by the bakery last week to chat with me about all things vegan for the BabyCakes baking app that will launch just in time for all your bake-away-the-back-to-school-blues. Interesting note: did you know he cured his acid reflux in just one day by giving up dairy? True.
This app is really coming along and I can’t wait to share it with you guys!
